Megan Oswald is a Project Manager for the new Ballistic Missile Submarine program at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. She works across multiple divisions, and with vendors and prime contractors to assess and facilitate implementation of the Columbia Class Submarine into the growing workload at the shipyard, leading and collaborating to ensure schedule and budget success as the program moves from design to construction.
Megan is also a Navy Veteran and a Navy Spouse. She enlisted as a Nuclear Machinist’s Mate in 1999 and was stationed onboard the USS Harry S Truman, completing two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. She was one of only several in the Atlantic Fleet to be designated Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor as a Second Class Petty Officer. She also earned her Enlisted Surface and Air Warfare qualifications. She received her BS in Nuclear Engineering Technology, completed her service obligation in 2005, and followed her husband’s advancing career from enlisted service member to commissioned Navy MH-60S helicopter pilot.
In 2007 Megan used her relatable operational and leadership experience when she collaborated with GE as the contractor supervisor in Pensacola, Florida. Her successes include developing a transition process for temporary employees, revamping the new hire training programs, implementing and rewarding safety initiatives, and increasing customer confidence; resulting in award of a multiple-year continued service contract to support the extreme seasonality of the wind turbine production facility.
Megan received her MS in Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2013. She then opened her own business, crafting t-shirt quilts in her home while raising two children. This brought in extra income and prevented gaps in her resume caused by supporting her husband’s active duty assignments and relocations. Through Etsy, Megan’s clients found custom and personal service, and Megan found fulfilling and rewarding work. She successfully operated the online marketplace shop for almost 6 years, passionately improving processes and doubling income for 4 consecutive years while maintaining 5-star customer satisfaction ratings.
Megan and her husband have three beautiful daughters, and as a family they enjoy energetic activities like riding roller coasters, taking martial arts classes, and engaging in general tomfoolery. She currently resides in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
