Having experienced the life and sacrifices made as a military Dad and Mom, we got to see the sacrifices that our two sons, and others, have made for our country. For the most part, these are unsung heroes in a world where we honor pop stars, athletes and movie actors. After our son, Steven was killed in action, we had the opportunity to befriend many of his military brothers. Additionally, we learned of the many struggles that other military family members endured as they returned from the horrors of war. Some of Steven’s brothers even attempted to end their lives and unfortunately some were successful.
Despite the countless charitable organizations that exist to honorably help our Veterans, we do not feel that there could ever be enough support to repay them for their sacrifices. So, what could we do to help them? We are not offering behavioral or PTSD-type counseling. There are many other professionals willing and able to do this. However, many Veterans come back with the dream of starting their own business. Here’s where we can assist!
We have started this organization for both selfish and charitable reasons. The Selfish: We never served our country in the military. Many have said that we have sacrificed for this country because of our Gold Star status. Some have even called us heroes. We do not feel that way! We did not put the uniform on. However, our sons and many others answered the call. They volunteered. They did not have to do this. They are the real heroes. We have realized the American Dream! We owe much of our success to those who wore the uniform and wrote a blank check with their lives, asking for nothing in return. The Charitable: We are teachers at heart, and there is no better way to take our God-given talents than to help the real heroes that have made this country the greatest in the history of the world. We volunteer our time with B.R.A.V.E. and never charge veterans for our services.
